Situated on the shores of Lake Couchiching, this 5 bedroom home takes advantage of spectacular views to the water with an open and glass filled facade to the garden and lake. A more private and formal facade is presented to the street side. The entire second floor is contained within the roof structure, giving the appearance of a much smaller building mass. All the second floor bedrooms have vaulted ceilings extending into the roof structure. A glazed cupola lets light into the vaulted kitchen breakfast area. Traditional details and materials including brick, flagstone and cedar shingles are blended to create a domestic feeling appropriate to the local cottage atmosphere.

This new detached dwelling occupies a thin and long ravine lot adjacent to a city park. The building shares a basic massing with other houses on the street but with more contemporary detailing and materiality. The limited width of the lot after required setbacks influenced the final interior configuration with the dining, kitchen and family rooms located on the ground floor and the living room with terrace on the second floor. The abundant windows and terrace at this level offer higher and long range views over the ravine and park beyond. Two bedrooms are located on the second floor with another three being arranged on the third floor. Insulated concrete form walls and clear span manufactured floor joists were employed in the construction.

This new 3,300 square foot three storey home was constructed in the midst of an existing built up neighbourhood and was designed to have an appearance that blended in with the character of the area. The street facade uses materials that are common to the street and has a massing consistent with other existing dwellings. The appearance is of a typical centre hall plan. The rear facade changes character and terraces down three floors creating a series of terraces and green roofs.
